INFORMATION ON SPECIAL TRAINS 07-11 May 2010

Post by John Ashworth »

Ashley Peter wrote:As you may be aware the annual Tourism Indaba is taking place in Durban over the coming weekend. There will be a number of train operators participating, with the result that special trains will be visiting Durban and some of them will be undertaking special trips. Some members have asked for scheduling information so that they may photograph or view these trains, which are rare visitors to Durban. Here is the latest information to hand:-

Blue Train

Will be arriving in Durban on Friday, 7 May 2010 at 11:00, hauled by one of the dual-voltage Class 14E electric units

It is then scheduled to run dinner specials from Durban (18:00) to Umkomaas (19:10 – 22:45) and then returns to Durban (23:55) each evening on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It departs back to Pretoria on Monday, 10 May at 10:00.

Rovos Rail

Will be arriving in Durban on Friday, 7 May 2010 at 19:45

It is then scheduled to run dinner specials from Durban (19:30) to Umkomaas (20:45 – 21:45) and then returns to Durban (23:00) each evening on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

It departs back to Pretoria on Tuesday, 11 May at 10:00

Premier Classe

The regular scheduled train arrives on Saturday, 8 May 2010 at 08:00

It is then booked to run one dinner special from Durban (18:30) to Mount Edgecombe (19:05 – 19:30) and then returns to Durban (20:05) on Saturday evening.

It returns to Johannesburg on Sunday, 9 May at 17:30

Kind regards

Ashley

STOP PRESS

Please take note that whilst typing this I have just received notification that due to the impending Transnet strike action, the Blue Train will NOT be undertaking the planned dinner trips to Umkomaas anymore and will return to Pretoria early, on Saturday, 8 May at 15:00
