I hope some may find the following of interest. Attached are a few photos of 16E 858 from April 1989. Most of the photos are from memory, a trial the engine did on a pick up freight from Kimberley to Bloemfontein just prior to the running of the 14 day Kei Explorer tour train. The engine was used on this tour train from Bloemfontein to Kimberley on the 24th of April 1989. I believe the location of the engine shunting in the photos was De Brug, but would be glad to be corrected. The last photo was taken in Beaconsfield Loco a few days before the engine appears in the other photos. They sure cleaned the engine up in those few days. Peter Haynes..

Thanks John, and yes it was my first post. I've put a link below to a video i took at Immigrant of the 16E on the Kei Explorer on Monday the 24th of April 1989 if anyone's interested. It's a bit shaky as i remember jumping straight out of bed and grabbing the video and joining the photo line for the run past. It was a cold morning and i was only in shorts and a singlet! If you also click on my You Tube user name, there is a number of other Sth African clips along with Chinese and Australian clips. They are all steam clips, i've no interest in diesels. It's sad to learn that the 16E 858 is no longer a runner. Peter.
