Umgeni Steam Railway: 150th anniversary train help appeal

Post by Steve Appleton »

150th Anniversary Train
URGENT APPEAL TO ALL USR & RSSA MEMBERS

Please note that almost literally at the eleventh hour, Transnet has quite remarkably “come to the party” and approved a R90 000 sponsorship of a special steam train to commemorate 150 years of railways in South Africa.

This train will be running between Durban and Point on Heritage Day, Friday 24 September 2010, which leaves less than two weeks for arranging what we have to in order to make this a most memorable event.

Umgeni Steam Railway therefore appeals to all its members, as well as any RSSA members who are willing to assist, to please help with the preparations – especially with regards to the condition of the coaches and locomotive to be used on the day. There is a massive amount of painting and other work to be done, so all hands would be most appreciated.

Would anyone who is able to assist, even if just for a few hours, please contact Clem Robins who is co-ordinating these arrangements. He can be reached as follows:- 031-701 6810 (home); 031- 450 6059 (work); 084-500 4666 (mobile) or on RobinsCA@telkom.co.za.

Thanking you in anticipation
