Metrorail’s SOS to Cape Town

Can you believe that Metro rail cannot get its act together and is now asking all companies in Cape Town to change working hours to suit the trains. Why not just sort out the trains.

Embattled Metrorail has approached Cape Town businesses with an extraordinary proposal in a bid to reduce peak-hour chaos on its trains.

It wants companies to allow their employees to work more flexible hours, thus spreading the commuter load.

Actually its not a bad idea, considering the traffic volumes, flexi time would help a lot to spread the loads when it comes to transportation. In JHB we no longer have a rush hour, we have a rush half day in the morning and a rush half day in the evening. Both of which are actually spent standing still. Unfortunately many employers are just too closed minded and inflexible to realise the benefits of flexible working hours.
Although Metrorail is just using this an excuse for their incompetence.

Problem is that the majority of Metrorail passengers are factory/production line workers and in this environment flexi time does not work as the whole shift has to start at the same time.
