Time was pressing so I had just one day to get the flavour, but did manage to drive the 15.45 commuter from Leszno to Wolsztyn, and made time. It is a marvellous operation. Jobs have been saved, heritage has been saved and Wolsztyn is on the map.

The echo of the steam whistle has reached all the way to Warsaw where two weeks back the Polish president asked that two locos be sent to the capital to take part in a celebration. And the Marshal of Poznan, the city to which the steam-hauled commuter trains normally work, is pouring city funds into the project, because he understands its value as a tourist attraction.
To think that not even a decade ago South Africa had 50 or more working, preserved steam locomtives and more lines, more crews and more infrastructure than the Poles could dream of ...
Anyway, long may the Wolsztyn Experience prosper.
A luta continua.
