UK: Drunk woman falls under train... and lives

THE MOMENT A DRUNKEN WOMAN FELL UNDER A TRAIN ...AND LIVED

Shock CCTV pictures show the woman's fall

Thursday December 22,2011
By Daily Express Reporter

A drunken woman’s fall from a railway platform under a train has been released by police as a salutary lesson to revellers over the Christmas season.

Heavily intoxicated, she is seen on CCTV pictures stumbling along as she steps off a train.

But then she lurches backwards and slips from the platform into the gap under the carriage.

Officers from British Transport Police released the footage yesterday in the hope it will increase people’s awareness of the need to take care.

The woman miraculously escaped after fellow passengers alerted the guard who prevented the train leaving the station.

If not for their vigilance she could have been crushed. Instead she was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises.

Trains were delayed for 20 minutes during the incident which happened earlier this year in Barnsley, South Yorks.

Insp Graham Bridges said: “She was lucky to only end up with a few minor injuries and, had it not been for the alertness of passengers we could have been dealing with potentially serious injuries.”

Drunk partygoer's narrow escape under train used as festive warning

A drunk partygoer had a narrow escape when she fell under a train – and now the footage has been released to highlight the dangers of being tipsy at railway stations.

The woman is shown on CCTV stepping off a train, stumbling backwards and falling in-between the train and the platform.

She escaped with only cuts and bruises after being quickly helped from the track.

British Transport Police said it hoped releasing the footage of the incident at Barnsley station earlier this year would encourage rail customers to take care of themselves over Christmas and the new year.

Inspector Graham Bridges said: ‘Had it not been for the alertness of other passengers who helped her, we could have been dealing with potentially serious injuries.’

BTP is increasing patrols by officers at stations over the Christmas and new year period.

Insp Bridges added: ‘We understand that at this time of year, with Christmas fast approaching, people will be out at parties and will be consuming alcohol.’

However, he warned officers would not hesitate to take action against those committing crimes or anti- social behaviour and that CCTV systems across the network would be used to manage incidents.

Go to the Metro link above and you can watch the movie.

She is thin so she managed to fit through the gap nicely!
