A delightful, idyllic rural scene which reminds one of the old country ditty, "Oi showed 'er the works of moi threshing machine..."

A tractor dropped its load on a level crossing in Ely – forcing police to stop trains and causing chaos for rail commuters and motorists.

Farm machinery for threshing corn was strewn across the tracks at the crossing after the accident which happened at just after 6am this morning.

A police officer alerted Network Rail and British Transport Police to stop the next train coming through.

And the incident has triggered delays of up to 30 minutes between Kings Lynn and Ely which are expected to last until 10.30am, First Capital Connect said.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said recovery work started at 7.15am and the incident has caused tailbacks in Ely.
