ATLANTIC RAIL STEAM EXCURSIONS

Railways Africa On June 12, 2012 In South Africa

The train consists of timber bodied vintage coaches dating from 1922 to 1938. The lounge car offers full cash-bar service. The locomotive is a 2-8-4 of class 24, new in 1949.

The train departs from Cape Town and travels between the famous Newlands rugby and cricket grounds to Muizenburg. The scenic route winds along the rugged coast of False Bay. The view of the ocean is spectacular, with the waves crashing on the rocks below. The line skirts the rocks as it travels through the quaint village of Kalk Bay, then snakes through Fish Hoek and Glencairn, ending in Simon’s Town, in view of the naval dockyard.

Passengers may alight at Kalk Bay by prior arrangement at the time of booking. station, then they must stipulate this when booking.
