Whilst carrying out research in more than one archive for my books on the Gotthard Railway, I was surprised to come across evidence of "special trains" from Chiasso on the Italian border and Schaffhausen on the German border. The trains were operated by the Swiss Federal railways as far as the German border, across a country that was supposed to be neutral. The operation of these trains in Europe was common in all occupied countries.
