I wonder whether this applies to Swedish steam engine drivers? Nathan, maybe you can ask Goran!

I once had to fire a steam loco wearing shorts. The rostered fireman had to book off literally at the last moment, when the train was about to depart, and I was the only other fireman within reach, wearing shorts as I wasn't on duty; I had just come to wave the train off. I was wearing my safety boots, fortunately. I would certainly not recommend anyone to wear shorts (or a skirt, for that matter) for a firing turn. It did help me to improve my fireman's "dance", keeping the body moving all the time to try to avoid getting burnt knees!
