Re: Reefsteamers public open day 27 July 2013
Rather than have the hassle of going into the city and parking at Park Station, I suggest visitors should consider parking at the Malboro, Sandton or Rosebank Gautrain stations and then taking the Gautrain through to Park Station.Reefsteamers’ annual public Open Day takes place at the Germiston-based steam locomotive depot on Saturday, 27 July 2013. As the very limited parking near the depot will be taken up by officials and exhibitors, visitors should park at Park station (using either the Prasa or Gautrain facilities) and take the steam-hauled special passenger trains – platform 13 or 14 – at 09:00 and 11:00 to the depot. There will be return workings at 13:30 and 15:30. The trains will be handled in rotation by class 12AR 1535 Susan and 15F 3046 Janine.
At Germiston, in addition to the railway, workshop, miniature train rides and heritage displays, there will a crafts market and a play area to keep children busy while their parents enjoy the exhibits.
Day charge: Adults = R150. Kids 4-12yrs. = R100. 0-4yrs. = Free.
Ticket price includes the return steam train rides and depot entry only, ie parking charges at Park station are extra.
BOOKINGS: Cash tickets may be bought at Reefsteamers’ station stand before boarding the train; alternatively book ahead to reserve a seat. (011) 888-1154/5 or bookings@reefsteamers.com
