4 wheel short

Post by John Ashworth »

Interesting 4 wheel short at Koedoespoort used as stores train. FOTR stand a chance of obtaining some of these vehicles for historical display.

I recall that, in the former Rhodesia, railwaymen hated these shorts because of their propensity to easily derail. There were strict instructions about how they were to be marshalled into trains: always to the rear if I recall correctly.
During my term with Philips Industrial, we used Goverment-provided assize weights to test, calibrate and certify then new-fangled electronic weigh-bridges (mass-measuring bridges). These weights (masses?) lived in a couple of 'short' enclosed wagons that were difficult to get delivered anywhere on time because of the train marshalling restrictions.

Hi folks!

I'm very interested in obtaining a set of fully detailed drawing/s, ie. detailed drawing of the frame, brake gear, doors, wheels & axles and end profiles, for this vehicle.
Unfortunately I already have a very bad schematic drawing of this vehicle; classification ES-7, currently carries a classification of NES-7, (non revenue earning ES-7).

I would appreciate greatly if somebody could assist!
Dylan Knott please asked arround in the Western Cape for me, maybe somebody at Voorbaai or George could help! thanks in advance!

Kindest regards
Gabor
