Don't know, but while searching for it on Google I found this interesting snippet here:
South Africa accounts for about 47% of the total number of locomotives of all types in sub-Saharan Africa or 32% of the African total. However, South Africa's dominance of electric locomotives is almost complete, with about 96% of sub-Saharan locomotives and 92% of the continent's total number of electric locomotives.
