Club Meeting 11th July 2007

Post by John Ashworth »

The FOTR meeting at the Transvaal Museum yesterday evening, Wednesday 11th July, was quite well attended by recent standards, with about 16 people present.

Peter Stow gave an excellent presentation including photos of railway accidents, old and new, which suggested that the modern railway doesn't necessarily have more or worse accidents than the old one did. He also showed a few very old photos of South African steam, and a large selection of more modern locomotives and trains from southern Africa and the USA. He included a few of preserved steam in the USA, and ended with some photos of modern jet airliners in unusual and interesting circumstances. It was a very mixed presentation with something for everyone and was very much up to Peter's usual high standard. These were mostly pictures which Peter has collected from other sources, but he suggested that for his next presentation he might once again show us some of his own photos. That's something to look forward to.

The next meeting is scheduled for 12th September (meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month every two months) at 7.30 pm at the Transvaal Museum in central Pretoria, and all are welcome. Put it in your diary now!
