Train crush man's legs amputated

Paramedics have amputated a man's legs after they were crushed by a train.

The First Great Western service ran over the man's legs between the knee and the ankle at Plymouth station, in Devon, during Wednesday night.

A South West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a medic had to get under the train to finish the amputation.

It is not clear how the man came to be caught under the train but the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Ambulance spokeswoman Lyn Paramor said if the paramedic had not got under the train the man could have bled to death.
