I spoke to an old driver today and he confirmed that this loop was built just to serve Belle Ombre Station. It is single track and trains normally run in one direction only. It splits from the main line at Technikon.

My father was a railway civil engineer and was involved in many of the construction projects around Pretoria in the early 80s- the widening of Wonderboompoort and the Sentrarand line are two examples. He was also involved with the Belle Ombre extension and I accompanied him and other railway VIPs on the first EMU trip from Mabopane to Belle Ombre on a Saturday morning in 1983. I remenber seeing a 15CA hauled goods near Rosslyn and the train driver saying that he hoped that the "donderse stoom" would not delay his train. From the cab we also saw 15CAs at Wonderboompoort returning from shunts. Regular steam shunting in Pretoria was in its last 15 months then..
