Steam back in Western Cape

Post by John Ashworth »

Ian Pretorius wrote:On Saturday 28 June Class 24 No. 3655 will haul the first steam trip for
Atlantic Rail ending a 16 month steam drought in the Western Cape. The trip
will be the Table Bay Sunset route which meanders around the Atlantis line
underneath the Ysterplaat underpass, running along Table Bay to Unity Yard and
returning via the same route. Departure is at 15:00 and we expect to be back by
18:00.

It has been really difficult to get off the ground but we have finally cracked
it with a lot of personal financial sacrifice. Also a lot of help from many
different directions. It shows that there are still some really good souls out
there who actually care about keeping steam on rail. No tons of coal donated
here. And by the way a ton of coal in Cape Town costs in excess of R1 000 and
so does a boiler flue tube for a Class 24.

Atlantic Rail-formerly Spier.
They will use Les Labuschagne I believe. All crews are imported.

To Ian,

Ian, yes this is really awesome news at last from Western Cape area.
Congratulations to you and all others who have been or are involved
in getting Atlantic Rail up and running!!
I would like to wish you and Atlantic Rail everything of the best,
and I certainly hope that everything will go from strenght to
strenght!
You have got my support and or active participation ( even if it is
from JHB) as well, if there are any requirements to fulfil.

Best Wishes & Regards
Gabor
