Noticed the no access sign next to the door and further down the building by the toilets is another one. Could someone explain as almost a whole coach was parked past the eastern side of the building last Sunday(31-08-08). They make you feel like you’re not allowed to go have a look at the loco… ;-)

The no access signs are actually redundant now and will be removed. They were put up before the first trip in July, before we had worked out exactly how the train would stand, before the gap between the eastern and western platforms had been filled, and when the narrow platform surface along the side of the goods shed was still very uneven. At that point we felt it would be potentially hazardous to allow passengers into that area. During August the gap was filled so we now have one continuous platform, and the uneven concrete alongside the goods shed was removed and replaced with sleepers and bricks, so we now have fewer qualms about alowing public access to that area. Unfortunately as always we have too few hands to do too much work, so removal of these signs has lagged behind a little.

Nathan has now removed some of them this morning. We'll have a work party at Hercules this coming Saturday (13th September) and I think Tom and I will rationalise the rest of the signs then.

Tom and I rationalised the signs at Hercules this afternoon. I forgot to take my camera but hopefully Tom will post a picture of the new dispensation. Thanks Barend, Gabor and others for bringing this point up.

As promised, but a bit slow on the uptake, a photo of the "rationalised" signs illustrating the "new dispensation". (I did not realize that such big words could be used to describe mere signs at a lowly rail siding in Pretoria.)
