Man arrested over train attacks
A County Durham man has been arrested after trouble broke out on a train travelling on the East Coast Main Line.
British Transport Police said a male passenger was hit in the face and a woman had a glass of wine thrown over her on Tuesday night.
The attacks happened as the train was approaching York and police have appealed for witnesses.
A 36-year-old man from Darlington has been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
The male passenger suffered facial injuries in the assault.
Pc Nick Storey, of British Transport Police, said: "I am keen to speak to any passengers who were on the train and witnessed what happened, or noticed any suspicious behaviour from one of their fellow passengers.
"The train was en-route to Newcastle, so it is quite possible that potential witnesses could live in the York, Durham and Newcastle areas."
