"State of Railway Safety 2013-14" published

Post by Steve Appleton »

In the attached file, HRASA’s Director and Safety Representative, Steve Appleton, reports in SA Rail magazine on the Rail Safety Regulator’s launch of its "State of Railway Safety 2013-14" report.
The state of railway safety in South Africa continues to be a major concern for the industry, the Railway Safety Regulator and the Department of Transport. At the public launch of the “State of Railway Safety, 2013-14 Report” it was revealed that overall railway occurrences are up 7% compared with the last reporting period and that the direct costs associated with railway incidents rose by 5% to R411 million within TFR but thankfully decreased by 22% to R130 million within PRASA.
