UK - Bus swap driver hits rail bridge

Bus swap driver hits rail bridge

A bus has lost most of its roof after the driver forgot he had switched from a single to a double decker and tried to drive it under a bridge.

The Stagecoach bus hit the Kirkcaldy railway bridge at about 1215 GMT on Wednesday after taking a wrong turn.

One of the seven passengers travelling between Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy had slight head injuries.

It happened in Dunnikier Road under the bridge, which carries the main east coast railway line.

Network Rail inspected the bridge for damage.

A Fife Constabulary spokesman said: "The driver had been following that route all morning on a single decker but then had swapped onto a double decker bus and was meant to take a different route instead of going under the bridge but he forgot.

"A man sitting on the top deck was slightly injured."
