METRORAIL TO O R TAMBO
Railways Africa
Thursday, 07 August 2008

South African Rail Corporation (SARCC) CEO Lucky Montana has announced the pending introduction of direct Metrorail services between Soweto and O R Tambo International Airport. Passengers will transfer at Isando station to dedicated connecting buses for the short journey to the terminal. Similar facilities for passengers to and from Pretoria and Centurion are envisaged.

[ Though Gautrain is building its own separate lines (from Johannesburg) to the airport and Pretoria, no direct link between the two is being provided. Passengers will need to change at Marlboro or Sandton. The Metrorail service may prove more convenient, despite having no station at the airport itself. - editor

A few years ago I had to walk to and from Isando to the airport to unseccessfully obtain a rental car. From memory it took about 15mins. I thought then that a shuttle bus was needed. A bit like JFK airport if you like! The city has only realised now that the amount of workers coming from Soweto....... rant rant rant
