An 18-year-old woman lost part of an arm when she fell between a train and the platform at a station in Berkshire.

The incident at Wokingham Station at 0812 GMT involved an 0804 Reading to Redhill First Great Western train.

The woman was taken to Reading's Royal Berkshire Hospital, where her condition is described as serious but stable.

Services to Wokingham were suspended and South West Trains terminated trains at Ascot. However, two trains were trapped for 45 minutes the firm said.

"As is the usual procedure, power supply was switched off and emergency services called," a South West Trains spokesman said.

Nicole Target, from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "She was already under the train so when we arrived she was already on the track.

"The main thing is that she was alive."
