Re: BJ's
Stefan, I've removed the duplicate photo.
I remember a few years back one European country (I think it was Switzerland) leased its dining cars to Macdonald's. It seemed so weird to see a train of smartly-turned out coaches with one painted like a Macdonald's drive-through right in the middle of the consist.
To be honest, I thought the BJ's food and ambience was fine as far as fast food goes, albeit obviously not the same as a Premier Classe dining experience (but then not the same price either). The elegant dining ambience of earlier days has gone throughout most of the world and fast food is taking over. The food on most British trains these days, for example, is served from a microwave after queuing at a counter - I think the BJ's experience was better than that. And that's not even to mention the era of British Rail tea and sandwiches which became a byword for bad food and is best forgotten...

Re: BJ's
Thanx for removing the extra. I have never traveled by train in Europe so can't comment on that. What is the quality dished up in the Shozoloza Meyl trains these days. I caught a train from Cape Town to George at the beginning of 2000, Bj's were on there. I was not impressed with it at all. A far cry from yesteryear. I traveled Cape Town to Pretoria extensively when I was in the Air Force (by train) and just loved the food and ambience in the Dining Car and Lounge Car on the Transkaroo. (Circa 1978 and 1979)
