Ah Meccano! Or rather, Vintage Meccano!

Used to make wonderful things.......

Here is an example made with Vintage Meccano - at a Meccano Exhibition in Madrid recently.

Meccano was wonderful, although I could never afford to buy enough to make the really complicated things. Then they replaced it with some sort of plastic stuff, and now hardly anyone has even heard of it. I actually wish I had Meccano now as an adult, as I can imagine making some fun things!

I have seen that Meccano is back in some shops, but you need a small fortune to buy just a small little kit. Wish I had kept what i had as a child, its worth alot now.

When I was a small boy I promised myself that I would, when I grew up, save and buy a number 10 set - the one in the wooden box. Or maybe 2 or 3 number 10 sets.

As I grew up I watched the pricing.

I started work, and started a savings plan........... At that stage Hornby/Meccano imploded and went bung. I always blame myself for this!!!!

I still have my dreams though - and a big collection of Meccano Magizines, manuals etc..... And a picture of a Number 10 I was sent........
