3020 and the diesels

Post by John Ashworth »

This morning 3020 was moved onto the adjacent "through" road to be fuelled. Later in the day it seems a procession of diesels needed to make use of this road, so 3020 was shunted aside. Here is a series of photos of the various movements, by John Ashworth, Nairobi, 28/04/10.

If you compare picture 7 and 9, the 8720 looks very wide beneath the 3020 but if you see the 8720 behind the 3020 both locos have the same width?

Good illusion.

The short nose at the cab end of a class 87 is the full width of the loco, whereas the long engine compartment behind the cab is less than the full width, with a walkway on each side. Maybe that contributes to the illusion?
