Train Driver injured in Colision

A train driver and a security guard were injured when the empty passenger train they were travelling in collided with a goods train between Springs and Brakpan, Metrorail said on Monday.

“The cause of the accident is not yet known. The Metrorail train collided with a goods train and its driver and a guard were slightly injured in the accident,” Metrorail spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng said.

The accident occurred shortly before 10pm on Sunday evening.

The railway between Springs and Brakpan was still closed and passengers were being ferried by bus between the areas.

The damage caused to the Metrorail train was R7 million and the railway was expected to be fixed later on Monday. -
