Hi All,
Does anyone have a audio recording of a SAR steam whistle? The recording needs to be "clean" as in it has no background noise (such as people talking, loco chuff, wheel clank etc) over the whistle sound.
I'm looking for the recording to use in a DCC sound decoder project I'm busy with. I've been over a couple of DVD's and tapes but none of the recordings are "clean" enough to use.
Thanks,
Niel

Re: SAR Steam Whistle Recording
Hi Niel, Suggest if you cannot find what you want, you might like to arrange to come to FOTR suitably equipped with recording gear early one morning when we have a loco in steam and make your own recordings. Bear in mind that the whistle sound can vary from loco to loco depending on the type of whistle fitted, e.g "chime" whistle, etc. Also that some drivers are more skilled at playing the whistle than others.

Re: SAR Steam Whistle Recording
Hi Steve,
Thanks I'll may just give that a try. It would possibly give me an opportunity to record a couple of other loco related sounds such as chuffs, boiler sounds, steam blow off's etc.
In the mean time I've found something that will work good enough after some editing. When I get done with the project I'll post a video to youtube for everyone to see.
Thanks
Niel
