Track work commences!

Basically, and quite simply, cork is laid as the base for the track. The track itself is flex-track (it is easily bent to form curves) and comes in metre lengths.

The cork itself is laid loose - strips are used for single tracks and sheets for the yard area (see photo bottom right).

Left loose, the cork can be adjusted and the lines are laid.

The track lengths are then pinned loosely in position, with rail joiners being used to connect separate tracks.

The flextrack is trimmed to fit as it is curved, or where points (turnouts) are added or gaps filled.

Once everything is fine - a "good eye" plays an important part here - then the pins are hammered in.
