Ryanair: Scrap Stansted's light railway and make passengers walk to planes

Ryanair boss Micheal O'Leary is famous for his money-saving schemes... The latest? Scrap the light railway at Stansted and make passengers walk to their planes instead.

The no-frills airline is in talks to buy a stake of 24.9 per cent from the successful bidder of the airport later this year.

The current owner, BAA, is being forced to sell the Essex airport, and Ryanair boss Mr O'Leary says there is great potential for slashing costs and increasing traffic.

According to the Express, he said: "We'd do to Stansted what we've done with Ryanair. We'd make it much more efficient and we'd grow it like gangbusters."

The report in the paper says getting rid of the light railway in favour of a footbridge is just one of O'Leary's cost-cutting ideas, with others including removing check-in desks to make way for more shops and faster security lanes.

Before we know it, he'll do away with all the toilets there, too...

Manchester Airports Group (MAG) is currently the early favourite to buy Stansted with a £1.3 billion bid.
