This bridge appears to be on the Ermelo Lothair branch and which is used to cross the Vaal or one of its tributories.

The locomotive, GMAM No. 4079, although operated by Reefsteamers, is of course owned by Sandstone and is named "Lyndie Lou".

The signal was not working as this was part of the CTC that was installed on the East Lomdon main line, now replaced by the track warrent system. All signals have been removed on the main line and I guess they missed this one!

Kei Rail Passenger Train Saturday 23 August 2008
Schedule is still one train Amabele to Umtata on Saturdays and returning on Sundays.
Appears to be very few passengers and train has been reduced to three carriages. This does not bode well for the future!

The line between Stormberg and Rosmead where double headed 15AR's at one time ruled has been lifted in many areas and this view shows the truncated section at Stormberg, still guarded by a lone colour light signal.

I believe the cross bracing was fitted as an experiment to extend the benifits of the Scheffel bogie and its method of linking the axles to 4 wheel wagons.

Cut Off

What is the minimum cutoff that be applied to our locos, the 24, 19D and 15F?

I have noticed that that drivers make very few adjustments to this setting during the journey. In theory, this should be adjusted continuously to provide the most economical use of steam.

I have only heard of one ...
