Since Crown sponsored the painting of 3020, another company has now offered to paint the other two locos, 2409 and 5918. What's more, they say they will do it "properly", stripping down to bare metal and applying primer, rather than just painting on top of existing paintwork. They also claim to have a new high-tech heat resistant paint for the smokebox. We'll see...
Meanwhile, the repainting of 3020 was just about completed today.
The colour-coding of pipes and fittings may be of interest - as far as I can tell, white = compressed air, blue = water, orange = electrical conduits. Green seems to be a catch-all for the inside of the cab and anything that isn't any other colour.

- Looks a bit like the Irish flag: green (cab sides), white (roof) and orange (electrical)

- Fresh aluminium paint on the lagging on the steam pipes. If I remember rightly these cocks which control the fire are (l to r): blower, light-up, pressure, steam heat, blowback.

- The water cut-off cocks from the tender, painted blue, are accessible from the footplate. You don't have to climb down and rummage under the tender with a heavy hammer as you do in South Africa!

- 3020 has three injectors, and the old drivers seemed quite surprised when I told them South African locos only have two. "But what do you do when they fail?" These two are on the fireman's side. They are self-starting injectors, as found on the South African 25NC and GMAM

- At least the steam team insisted that this be painted at the rear of the tender sides, not the front, so one still has a fighting chance of getting a photo of loco and (most of) the tender without the logo
